Sutton resident Verly M. Hofmann, 101, passed away Tuesday, December 8, 2020, at the Sutton Community Home in Sutton, NE.

Funeral services will be conducted at 1:30 p.m., Friday, December 11, 2020, at Emmanuel Reformed Church in Sutton, NE with Rev. Carl Gobelman officiating. Interment will follow at the Sutton Cemetery in Sutton, NE. Visitation will be one hour prior to the service at the church.

Memorial contributions may be directed to Emmanuel Reformed Church in Sutton, NE.

Verly was born September 9, 1919, in Clay County, NE to Ole and Mary (Hanson) Hansen. She received her education in Sutton, NE and graduated from Sutton High School in 1937. On September 17, 1938, she married Wilfred Hofmann in Winner, SD. Verly furthered her education at the University of Nebraska-Lincoln. She attended many hours of summer school and took numerous night classes to graduate with a bachelorís degree in 1967. She was employed as a teacher at numerous schools including several rural schools, Harvard, NE, Minden, NE and Omaha, NE. Verly was employed as a teacher for 30 years, 13 of those were with Omaha Public Schools.

She was a member of Emmanuel Reformed Church in Sutton, NE, the Nebraska State Education Association and was a lifetime member of the University of Nebraska-Lincoln Alumni Association.

Verly is survived by her son, Delary (Sheila) Hofmann of Sutton, NE; daughter-in-law, Elizabeth Hofmann of Sutton, NE; six grandchildren, Todd Hofmann; Tammie (Craig) Steinhauer; Tom (Lynn) Hofmann; Gwenda (Brent) Mau; Jesse (Cara) Hofmann; and Ashley (Jeffrey) Thompson; thirteen great-grandchildren and two great-great-granddaughters.

Verly was preceded in death by her parents, Ole and Mary Hansen; her husband, Wilfred Hofmann; her son, Richard Hofmann; four sisters, Clara Anderson; Rose Anderson; Pearl Salmen; and Gladys Troudson; five brothers, Leo Hansen; Neal Hansen; Leonard Hansen; Ernest Hansen; and Vincent Hansen.
