Sutton, NE resident, Lucyle C. Sterkel, 90, passed away peacefully Sunday, December 6, 2020, at the Sutton Community Home in Sutton, NE.

Funeral services will be conducted at 10:30 a.m., Thursday, December 10, 2020, at the Federated Church in Sutton, NE with Rev. Mary Scott officiating. Interment will follow at the Sutton Cemetery in Sutton, NE. Visitation will be Wednesday, from 1 p.m. – 7 p.m., with the family present from 5 p.m. – 7 p.m., at Sutton Memorial Chapel in Sutton, NE.

Memorial contributions may be directed to the Federated Church or the Sutton Community Home.

With the continued spread of COVID-19, masks and social distancing are requested and highly recommended at all functions. Services will be live-streamed from Sutton Memorial Chapel's Facebook page https://www.facebook.com/suttonmemorial.

Lucyle was born October 23, 1930, to Henry and Sophie (Griess) Scheidemann in Sutton, NE. She attended Sutton Public School and graduated in 1948. She was employed with the Lincoln Telephone Company in Sutton, NE as a secretary. She married Robert Sterkel on December 31, 1960, and they made their home on a farm south of Sutton. To this union, three sons were born: David, Mark, and Glenn.

Lucyle was a homemaker and worked part-time and eventually full-time for KN Energy Gas Company before retiring in 1992.

Lucyle loved to sew, garden and refinish furniture. She also enjoyed fishing trips with her family and morning walks with her friends. She cherished anytime she could spend with her grandkids and great-grandchildren with who she shared her love of ice cream.

She was a member of Sutton Federated Church, Garden Club, Sutton Historical Society, Sutton Cemetery Board, and the American Legion Auxiliary for 67 years. After retirement, she enjoyed volunteering her time at Sutton Public Schools.

Lucyle is survived by her children, David (Lynn) of Sutton, NE; Mark of Denver, CO; Glenn (Marci) of South Elgin, IL; seven grandchildren, Katie Griess (Ryan); Evan Sterkel (Kellie); Matthew and Christopher Sterkel; Annie, Emily, and Logan Sterkel; five great-grandchildren, Addialynn, Brileigh, Cadeson, and Deakin Sterkel; Kinsley Griess; sisters-in-law, Dorothy Scheidemann and Janet Scheidemann and numerous nieces, nephews, and friends.

She was preceded in death by her parents; husband, Robert; sisters, Edna Walker and Emma Krieger; brothers, Herman, Leon, and Robert Scheidemann; brothers-in-law, Ed Walker and C.R. Krieger; and sister-in-law, Doris Scheidemann.

I just found out today about her passing today,I don't get on Facebook very often, so I wish the girl's and I could have been there, They just asked me a week ago if we could go visit Grandma Sterkel we were planning on going after the holidays, my condolences to the family, she will be greatly missed, the girl's and I loved her very much.

We were so sorry to hear of Lucyle's passing. She was such a wonderful friend to my mother at Sutton Nursing Home. I know Nadine will miss greatly. God bless your entire family.

Sending my heartfelt sympathy on the loss of your Mom, and Grandmother. I will be holding you close in thought and prayer in the days ahead. While I never had the privilege of meeting her, if she raised Dave she must have had the patience of a Saint and a sense of humor. Remember her well, cherish the memories, eat the ice cream.

What a great lady. I loved working with Lucyle while she was on the cemetery board. She would come into the office and work at entering the deaths into the computer for us. She was our go to person if we did not know someone. So sorry for your family loss.
