Ivan L. Tuxhorn

Sep. 13, 1948 - Oct. 4, 2019

Ivan “Tux” Tuxhorn, 71, took his final breath surrounded by family in Grand Island on October 4, 2019.

Ivan was born on September 13, 1948, in Humboldt, NE, the only child to Herbert and Verna Tuxhorn. He was baptized, confirmed and raised in the St. James Lutheran Church. Ivan attended Johnson Public School and later received his Bachelor of Arts in Education from Peru State College.

Tux accepted his first teaching job with McCool Junction Public School and it was there that he met the love of his life. Ivan and Cynthia (Fitzgerald) Tuxhorn were united in marriage on August 18, 1973, in Exeter, NE. Tux and Cindy were blessed with three children: Joel, Christi and Derek. After a 10-year teaching and coaching career, Tux spent his last 26 years of employment with Real Cattle Co.

Tux was an avid sports fan and you could always find him in the stands on game night supporting his kids and the Mustangs. He also loved agriculture, livestock and usually had cattle of his own to tend to. Most of all Tux loved spending time with family and friends and he could often be found spoiling his grandkids: Katanah, Jorden and Addyson.

Tux is survived by his wife of 46 years, Cindy; three children: Joel (Shana) Tuxhorn, Christi Tuxhorn, and Derek (Deidre) Tuxhorn, all of Grand Island; three grandchildren: Katanah, Jorden and Addyson Tuxhorn, all of Grand Island; Sister-in-law Charice Fitzgerald, brother-in-law and sister-in-law, Randy and Shelly Hellbusch, all of Friend, NE; special family friends Travis Fairbanks, Molly Reuland and a host of other family and friends.

Ivan was preceded in death by his parents.

The Tuxhorn family invites you to join them for a Celebration of Life gathering at Kerry’s Restaurant in McCool Jct. on Saturday, November 2, 2019, from 5:00 p.m. - 8:00 p.m.

My condolences go out to Cindy, children and grandchildren, as well as other family and friends. Mr. Tuxhorn was one of my favorite teachers at McCool. He always had a hearty hello in the mornings, and often shared words of encouragement when he could see the need for them. Mr. Tuxhorn went out of his way to let me know that I mattered in this world. I shall never forget his kindness and guidence.

Tux always had a smile on his face for everybody who walked in the room and said hi to him. I know the last few years were not great but the memories of his full life will keep you comfort in the days to come

Cindy and family,
We are so sorry to hear of Tux's passing. He was such a neat guy I will remember forever!!
He was my driver's ed. teacher and it brings a smile to my face thinking about our road trips. Daylight Donuts was in York at that time and us kids knew that if we got Tux a newspaper, stopped at Daylight Donuts for a donut, or two, we were set!! We could drive wherever we wanted to. Lol...He was always lots of fun.
Losing someone so very special to us is so hard but hold onto all the wonderful memories and stories and it will make it so much easier.
Our Sympathy,
Pat and Tammy Swantek
