Jane Louise (DeWitt) Skolaut born in Great Bend, KS on July 30, 1965, to Lewis and Dennie (Short) DeWitt. She graduated from Great Bend High School with the class of 1983. She married Clinton Mong and to this union, two daughters were born; Meranda and Rebecca. They were married for 11 years. She then married John Skolaut and to this union, two children were born; Blake and Greta. They were married for 12 years. Jane was a para-educator for USD 428 school district for several years. In 1991, she went to cosmetology school, following graduation Jane wanted to further her skills and pursued barbering. Jane enjoyed her 26 years of doing hair; making others look and feel great, developing relationships/friendships, entertaining with her stories and laughter. After moving to Clay Center, NE in 1996 Jane bought and owned her business the Hair Bender for 21 years. During that time, she spent 16 years volunteering as an EMT for Clay Center Fire and Rescue. Jane loved helping people through the work she did; teaching CPR classes, referring volleyball games, painting houses, and bartending. None of these jobs fulfilled her need for helping others as much as dispatching. She was a dispatcher and jailer at Clay County Sheriff's Office and also a dispatcher at Webster County Sheriff’s Office.

Outside of work, she was active in the community and Clay Center Christian Church. No matter what she was doing; working or enjoying time with friends or family, Jane was the life of the party. Her favorite past times were dancing, singing, laughing, playing games, telling stories, going to the movies, and spending time with her grandsons.

Jane is survived by her mother, Dennie DeWitt; daughter, Meranda Skolaut and grandson, Carter; daughter, Rebecca Merritt and husband Eric and grandsons, Lynden, Elden and Grayden; son, Blake Skolaut and wife Hailey; daughter, Greta Skolaut; sister, Julia Cordre and husband Neil; brother, Darin DeWitt; sister, Lindsey Ensley and husband Scott; and numerous nephews and a niece.

Jane was preceded in death by her father, Lewis DeWitt; paternal grandparents, Fred and Katie DeWitt and maternal grandparents, Dennis and Margaret Short.

I met Jane through her son Blake. Blake and Garrett played ball together and us moms got to know each other. Jane had the most contagious laugh and I don't think I ever seen her without a huge smile on her face. She was a person magnet and always positive, fun and caring of others. The one thing I do know is she loved her children and grandchildren Immensely. Jane you will be greatly missed by many, we will never forget you! Fly high pretty lady!!!! Blake and family please know we are here for you, many prayers coming your way!
