Leota was born August 2, 1937, to Carl C. and Clarice (Nuss) Griess in Sutton, NE. She received her education at country school Districts 16 and 66. On August 4, 1955, she married Silas Nuss in Clay Center.

Leota worked beside Silas on the family farm for many years. Her farming specialty was raising chickens, geese, ducks and turkeys. She had flawless nails but wasn't afraid to get them dirty in the kitchen, garden, or field. Leota was always ready to go shopping and much of her free time was spent crafting especially ceramics. She shared her joy for ceramics by teaching and gifting to family and friends.

Leota was a loving wife and mother of two daughters, four granddaughters, and six great-grandsons. She took great joy in spending time with family, welcoming grandchildren and great-grandchildren with warm hugs and lipstick kisses. Rarely needing to follow a recipe, her pies, cakes, springerle, and kuchen made every family gathering feel special.

Silas and Leota enjoyed each of their 63 years of marriage. Fond memories include trips to Hawaii, California, and visiting family in Branson and Texas, but they enjoyed typical days at home together just as much. Card night with siblings was a monthly highlight, as well as annual summer picnics. Silas is very thankful for all of the ways Leota cared for him over the years, especially the last four months.

Leota was a member of the Free German Reformed Salem Church for many years, and later a faithful member of Hope Reformed Church.

Leota is survived by her husband, Silas Nuss of Sutton, NE; children, Shirley (Ted) Griess of Sutton, NE; Cindy (Charles Jr.) Bussart of Valparaiso, NE; grandchildren, Amy (Richard) Novak of Ceresco, NE; Beth Griess of Lincoln, NE; Codi Nuss of Omaha, NE; Brittany Eacker of Omaha, NE; great-grandchildren, Teijen, Kashdyn, and Remington Novak; Kaiden Nuss; Dante Simpson and Chase Eacker; sisters, Ruth Griess, Anna Marie Griess, and Gertie Nuss all of Sutton, NE; aunt, Gertrude Lakin of Texas; and numerous cousins and friends.

She was preceded in death by her parents and brothers, Evon C. Griess and Paul R. Griess.
