Sutton resident Annette Lillian (Johnson) Carpenter, 89, passed away Saturday, April 7, 2018, at the Sutton Community Home in Sutton, NE.

Memorial services will be conducted at 2:00 p.m., Saturday, April 21, 2018, at the Clay Center Christian Church in Clay Center, NE with Pastor Kevin Whitmore officiating. Luncheon gathering following at the church with friends and family. Inurnment will follow the luncheon at the Sutton Cemetery in Sutton at 4:30 pm. Book signing with the family present will be held on Friday, April 20, 2018, from 5 p.m. until 8 p.m. at Sutton Memorial Chapel in Sutton, NE.

Memorial contributions may be directed to the family to be designated later.

Annette was born in Clay County on July 15, 1928, to Wesley and Myrtle (Swanson) Johnson. She and her brother Charles grew up on a farmstead in the Saronville area and both graduated from Sutton High School. Annette worked for Hastings National Bank in Hastings after graduation. In 1946, she married Argel Alonzo Carpenter of Sentinel, Oklahoma and they lived in Oakwood, Oklahoma before moving back to Clay County. Argel and Annette raised their four children on the farm in Saronville, NE where they worked hand-in-hand on the family farm. After retiring from the family farm, they moved to Sutton. Annette was known for her devotion and dedication to her family and to her husband of 53 years. She was a baptized believer and God’s loving servant; she especially loved singing in the church choir and small groups. The marriage was blessed with four children, eleven grandchildren and 22 great-grandchildren.

Annette was preceded in death by her parents, Wesley and Myrtle Johnson; her husband, Argel Carpenter; and her grandson, Travis Carpenter. Those left to cherish her memory are brother, Charles (Sue) Johnson and family, Annette’s children and their families, Dale Carpenter (Harrisonville, Missouri), Neal (Terry) Carpenter (Saronville, Nebraska), Paula (Lonnie) Smith (Lincoln, Nebraska), Anita (Mike) Laue (Spangdahlem, Germany).

Annette’s family would like to give special thanks to the caring staff at the Hillcrest View Assisted Living and the Sutton Community Home for their wonderful support and loving care of Annette in these past few years.
