JoAnn Marie (Tebbe) Skalka

Deweese resident, JoAnn Marie (Tebbe) Skalka, 70, passed away December 7, 2017, at St. Francis Medical Center in Grand Island. Rosary will be held at 7:30 p.m., Monday, December 11, 2017, at Our Lady of Assumption Catholic Church in Deweese. Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 10:00 a.m., Tuesday, December 12, 2017, at Our Lady of Assumption Catholic Church in Deweese with Father Thomas Schultes officiating. Interment will be in St. Martin (Loucky) Cemetery near Deweese. Visitation will be Monday, from 1 p.m. – 5 p.m., at McLaughlin Funeral Chapel in Clay Center and one hour prior to the Rosary and Mass at the church.
Memorial contributions may be directed to the family to be designated later.
She was born in Lawrence on April 19, 1947, to Albert and Anna (Kimminau) Tebbe, who preceded her in death. She graduated Lawrence High School in 1965 and thereafter attended Grand Island School of Business. Later in life she attended Central Community College and obtained an associate degree in accounting. She is survived by her husband of 50 years, Roman, whom she married on Jan. 14, 1967 at Sacred Heart Catholic Church in Lawrence. She is the mother of five children: son David Skalka (wife Cathleen), Omaha, NE.; son Darrel Skalka (died in infancy); daughter Marlene Lowderman (husband Brian), Henderson, NV.; son Anthony Skalka (wife Angela), Lincoln, NE.; and daughter Karen Skalka (husband Mark Kopac), Bellevue, NE. She is the grandmother of five, all of whom survive her: Nathan, 21; Amanda, 19; Sarah, 14; Madison, 8; and Harper, 3. She is survived by all her siblings: Albert Tebbe, Le Sueur, MN.; Michael Tebbe, Hastings, NE.; Dennis Tebbe, Hastings, NE.; and Susana Cable, Austin, TX.
In addition to being a wonderful, caring spouse and mother, she spent many years as the Deputy District Court Clerk of Clay County and over ten years in child support enforcement for the Nebraska Department of Health and Human Services, and received an award from then-Governor Heineman for her long-time dedicated service to the State of Nebraska. She was active in church activities at Our Lady of Assumption Catholic Church in Deweese and the Veterans of Foreign Wars Ladies' Auxiliary.
