Saronville, NE resident, Norma Jean Carlson, 86, passed away Monday, September 4, 2017, at the Sutton Community Home in Sutton, NE.

Funeral services will be 10:30 a.m., Thursday, September 7, 2017, at Sutton Memorial Chapel in Sutton, NE with Vicar Tim Stacy officiating. Interment will follow at the Saron Lutheran Cemetery near Saronville, NE. Visitation will be Wednesday, From 1 p.m. 8 p.m., with the family present from 7 p.m. 8 p.m., at Sutton Memorial Chapel.

Memorial contributions may be directed to the Saron Lutheran Cemetery.

Norma was born November 26, 1930, to Ben and Margaret (Grand) Cyckosz in Denver, CO. The family moved to Hastings, NE when Norma was 12 years old. She graduated from Hastings St. Cecilia High School. On February 11, 1950, she married Harold Carlson and to this union seven children were born. They celebrated their 60th wedding anniversary in February 2010.

Norma was an excellent cook and seamstress. She was employed for many years with the Sutton Consumer Co-op Propane. Norma loved to read and always had her Kindle handy. Her house was the center of all the family from her children to her great-grandchildren, all will deeply miss her.

She is survived by her children, Karen (Bruce) Ramsey of Sutton, NE; Gerald Carlson of Saronville, NE; Susan Horton of Phoenix, AZ; Lori (Rich) Gion of Hastings, NE; Mark (Brenda) Carlson of Sutton, NE; Kent (JoAnn) Carlson of Saronville, NE; Keith Carlson of Saronville, NE; sister, Janet Gaski of Fountain Valley, CA; 19 grandchildren; 15 great-grandchildren; step-siblings, Marland (Mary) Sedersten; Dennis (Lori) Sedersten; Paul (Chris) Sedersten; Ellen Sedersten and numerous nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by her parents; husband, Harold; and sister, Joyce.

I had just heard that Norma was at the nursing home, and now I am so sorry to read of her passing. Norma was so active in Friends of the Library while I was working at the library, and I so enjoyed our visits when she came to the library. My prayers are with you all.
