Sharon Kaye Griess, 73, passed away Thursday, July 6, 2017, at The Monarch in Lincoln, NE.

Funeral services will be held at 10:00 a.m., Monday, July 10, 2017, at Sutton Memorial Chapel in Sutton, NE with Pastor Mary Scott officiating. Interment will follow at the Sutton Cemetery in Sutton, NE with military honors by the American Legion Argonne Post #61. No visitation the casket will be closed.

Memorial contributions may be directed to the family to be designated later.

Sharon K. Griess was born February 3, 1944, in Superior, NE to Paul and Bertha (Burch) Ball.  She received her education in the Superior Public Schools and graduated from Superior High School in 1962. Shortly after graduation, Sharon enlisted in the United States Navy and served honorably as a Navy nurse from 1962 until 1964.  After her military service, she moved back to Nebraska and worked as a nurse at Bryan Memorial Hospital in Lincoln. It was at Bryan where she met her future husband, Robert Griess.  They were married in Lincoln on September 3, 1966.

Over the years, Sharon and Bob, along with their son, Kevin, moved around and lived in California, Kentucky and Oklahoma before moving to Sutton, NE in 1974.  In 1986, due to medical reasons, they moved back to Lincoln, where Sharon remained until her death.

She was an active member of the Capitol City Christian Church.

Sharon enjoyed the close friendships of Sharon Ernst and Carol Hoffart of Lincoln. Survivors include her son, Kevin and wife Sun of San Antonio, TX; grandsons, Eric Griess of Helsingborg, Sweden and Jason Griess of Charlottesville, VA; brother, Richard and wife Yoshimi of San Diego, CA; and sisters, Diane Biltoft and husband Roger of Oak, NE; Marilyn Hoffman and husband Robert of Juniata, NE; and Janis Baylie and husband Randy of Holdrege, NE.

She was preceded in death by her parents and husband, Robert on February 28, 2000.

My deepest sympathies on your loss. I always treasured the time I was able to spend with Sharon. She was quite dear.
